Description

It's always interesting to see some of the components that go into an image. In this case I show the three starless SHO images that went into the construction of the tone map, which is the basis of the final image shown on the left panel. As per the standard, S in mapped to red, H to green and O to blue. Of course there is a bit of color adjustment in the tone map using the multi-level technique.

The final step is to add a luminosity layer. It is the H layer with stars, plus the addition of screen layers of the S and O starless images, plus a final adjustment of the resulting histogram. Starless S and O images are used so as to add the distribution of those emissions, while still maintaining the tightness of the stars in the H image.

I you have any questions about this technique, let me know.

Eric
